How long?

2.5 years

Where?

We have locations across the UK, so we’ll need you to be flexible. Our major sites are in Derby and Bristol.

What you’ll be doing

Operations are rarely as complex as those you’ll find at Rolls-Royce. Keeping everything running smoothly right across our manufacturing, assembly and repair facilities is a major undertaking – as is managing the external suppliers who make around 70 per cent of our components. On our Operations Management Graduate Development Programme, you’ll have huge scope to contribute as you immerse yourself in real projects across the business.

You’ll start with three six-month placements, which will see you gain hands-on experience in areas such as Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering or Quality/Improvement. Your placements will include learning about lean principles and processes, leading to completion of your own improvement project and gaining accreditation in Lean Six Sigma. And because you’ll spend time in a manufacturing environment, by the end of your 18 months you’ll have gained a solid understanding of the breadth of Operations. As part of that, you’ll receive high quality training and mentoring, and be encouraged to pursue membership of a relevant professional body.

The training and support you receive from your mentor and career coaches mean you’ll be able to make an impact faster than you thought possible. And after you gain the grounding you need in your first 18 months, you’ll spend the next year in a leadership role, where you’ll have the support to lead a team, develop others and drive performance. This will all lead to your first role as a Production Leader in a manufacturing environment, where you can build on everything you’ve learned.

You first substantive role off the scheme as a Production Leader will be a highly challenging yet rewarding role where you will develop at pace, preparing you for future leadership roles within the business.

As part of the programme you may be required to work shifts which will likely be a reality in your role off-programme. Having your own shift to manage will enable you to truly display and grow your leadership skills and develop strong relationships with your team, whilst benefiting from financial uplift.

What we’re looking for

Strong leadership skills and resilience

A desire to work at a global level

Excellent communication, organisation and decision-making skills

Innovative and resourceful

What you’ll be doing

This two-year programme consists of four six-month placements, with various rotations in project management giving you experience right across Rolls-Royce. The diversity and scale of our projects is huge and you’ll be working across the full project lifecycle – from scoping, planning and scheduling to resource, cost and risk management, right through to delivery.

Hands-on assignments will give you the chance to apply your knowledge and to continue developing your skills. You’ll balance that with classroom and modular learning – and you’ll do everything with the support of your mentor, careers coaches and friends on the scheme.

Beyond that, you’ll work towards your first professional project management qualification from the APM – Association of Project Managers (or a regional equivalent). You’ll also have our support should you choose to take your qualification to the next stage.
