Commercial management

This role is right at the centre of delivering high profile projects; projects which will help us to provide world-class customer service.

You could be involved in complex transition and transformation activities, improving service design, delivering new services to a customer and process transformation or providing customers with in-life customer service support.

And your team could be based anywhere in the world.

Throughout your rotations you will take on many new skills but you won’t be stuck in a classroom to learn them. You will be coached and mentored. With a mix of Face to Face training, Financial and Commercial Awareness training and learning how to communicate the BT way, there are lots of ways to develop in this role.

Our Digital team turn our customers’ dreams into reality by connecting the right people with the right products, across every step of the customer journey. They’re the bright minds who light up our business, and that’s why we’re investing in two schemes for 2019: Digital and Dev and Ops.

For Digital your rotations could include campaign planning and execution, content management, web optimisation and analytics.

For Dev and Ops your rotations could include solution design, coding, digital environment management, and project delivery.

Both of our schemes include four rotations over two years.

HR

We employ around 110,000 people globally and as an organisation have huge ambitions for our future direction so our HR team are key to making sure that we attract, develop and retain the best people. Joining us as a HR graduate you’ll get to rotate across a variety of teams to give you a great generalist knowledge of HR. You could be re-writing policy in one rotation, then supporting our graduate recruitment team in the next and then onto looking at our reward framework in the next. With so many options in such a large HR team, you’ll be able to work with your manager to move between a wide variety of placement options, making sure you’re able to get the development and opportunities you need.

All the while you’ll be studying for your CIPD qualification which, alongside your rotations throughout HR, will make sure you’ve created a solid foundation for a career in HR.

We’re always looking for ways to offer our customers more of what they want and it’s down to our marketing team to make sure they know all about it. Join our marketing programme and you’ll be working on a range of projects such as campaign launches, digital, sales ennoblement, content production, marketing research, internal communications and data.

Over the two years you’ll have three rotations across different areas of our marketing and sales channels and in your second year you’ll have the opportunity to study towards your CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing. All together it’ll give you the skills and experience you need to kick start a fantastic career in marketing.

Our networks team are passionate, technical specialists and by joining our Networks programme you’ll get to join our team who pride themselves on being experts in their field and only ever deploying robust solutions that meet our customers’ needs.

Networks are responsible for designing, building, testing and operating fixed and mobile network solutions across the globe. Working together with technical innovators in communications, electronics and information technology, you’ll carry out a range of development and integration activities which underpin our network platforms and services. And in turn, provide a reliable service to our customers. You’ll get involved in a range of technologies and your role will be pivotal in transforming our network platforms and services.

Over time you’ll build up your knowledge and skills, all the while studying for industry recognised qualifications, to make sure you become a real expert in your field. Your manager will work with you to make sure you’re working on the right projects to help build your experience and give you the time and support you need to complete your studies too.

You should have a good working knowledge of IP networks, protocols and network components, with the ability to communicate complex concepts in a simple way.

Our procurement team work with big budgets and make sure we’re getting the best deals possible, as you’d imagine with a company our size. By joining our procurement programme you’ll get to rotate between the teams who buy products and services for our customers as well as the teams who buy things we need to keep BT up and running too.

You’ll work with a variety of people across the business to understand their needs and find the right product or service to meet their needs, all the while being mindful of BT’s bottom line. You’ll be negotiating deals, working with our legal team to create contracts and you’ll be given the accreditation to allow you to approve deals and sign contracts on BT’s behalf.

On top of that, you’ll be able to study towards the CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) qualifications, making sure you’ve got all the knowledge and skills to build a great career in procurement.

Project Managers here at BT make sure strategically important projects and business changes are fully implemented across our business. And, given we’ve around 110,000 people, that’s no mean feat. You might be working in Openreach coordinating technology or commercial projects or with our Business or Public Sector teams to help them ensure the solutions they’ve created for their customers are implemented smoothly on some really high value contracts.

You’ll begin by supporting and shadowing our current project managers, gaining confidence and knowledge. And then, as your knowledge grows alongside your AIM or Prince 2 studies, you’ll manage your own projects, which will get larger and more complex as your experience grows.

If you’re looking to kick start your careers in Sales our graduate programme is ideal for you. This programme focuses on building a broad future skill set for our graduates by completing 3 rotations within the Technology division of BT. Technology is BT’s powerhouse and has a unique position in the business, bringing together technical and commercial expertise, with an insight and passion for customer experience, Technology helps BT stand out from the competition. With the best networks and smart innovative products, Technology sets BT apart from the pack.

The rotations are approximately 8 months each and, depending on your location, you’ll have the opportunity to rotate across different Technology functions – such as IT, Dynamic Infrastructure and Converged Service Platforms (which includes TV & Broadband).

Across these business areas you could develop:

Software Skills – designing, testing and operating our systems which are used to deliver vital services to our customers, who vary from large, multinational corporations to individuals using our products and services at home. You could develop these skills by working on voice (fixed or mobile), TV, content delivery, mobility or security and you’ll have the opportunity to not only develop knowledge of the software lifecycle but also put it into practice

Network skills – by getting involved in all aspects of our core networks, designing, building, testing and operating fixed and mobile network solutions across the globe. You’ll develop these skills by working with technical innovators in communication, electronics and information technology and getting involved in a range of technologies transforming our network platforms and services

Technical Consultancy skills – by working on highly technical projects and programmes to make sure they are rolled out successfully with our customers and working with our technical teams to look at new and innovative ways customers could use our products and services to make sure everything we create is commercially viable.
